HippoSMS – A New Android Virus Attacks on China

A new malicious program has been found. This trojan works on Android smartphone. The virus infects sms feature on mobile phone. The virus which known as HippoSMS infiltrate short message feature and register to Premium SMS service.

The owner will not know this because the virus will block and remove the notification from the operator. They only know if they accept their mobile phone bills. A researcher from North Carolina State University found HippoSMS on July 10. It’s estimated, this program is from Chinese Android Market.

“Our Investigations show HippoSMS directly target the host application and when it runs then it will be active itself to send messages to premium service,” said Xuxian Jiang, assistant professor of Computer Science Department of North Carolina State University.

HippoSMS recently is detected on China. However, the android users should be aware of this. Denis Maslennikov, senior malware analyst at Kaspersky Lab said the attack can be found on China, Russia, and Ukraine.
